People often think software engineering is simply about sitting in front of a computer and writing code. In reality, coding is only one part of my role. A lot of the work happens before and after the code is written, like understanding requirements, breaking down a problem, choosing the right approach, troubleshooting issues, testing solutions, reviewing code, and working with the team to get things right.

Another misconception is that the job is always stressful. There are challenging days, especially when you’re dealing with a production issue or a tight deadline, but I don’t see software engineering as a burden. With a supportive team, room to experiment, and opportunities to keep learning, the challenges can actually make the work interesting and rewarding.

The sense of togetherness we have. There are eight of us, and we’ve been together as a team right from the start, so over time, we’ve built a really strong bond. Everyone is approachable, and we understand each other well, both at work and beyond it.

We’re also a fun-loving bunch. We’ve gone on around six or seven trips together, and travelling is something we genuinely enjoy as a team. I think that connection makes a big difference at work too. We’re comfortable sharing ideas, working through challenges together, and making sure no one feels like they’re facing things alone.

I try not to treat learning as something I’ll get to when I have spare time. I make it part of my routine and plan my time around it, just like I do with work. Some days may be busier than others, but I try to stay consistent rather than aim for perfection. Even setting aside a little time to learn something new, strengthen my skills, or explore new areas adds up over time. For me, it’s about being disciplined with my time and making steady progress without letting the demands of work get in the way of my growth.

When I was 13 and I first watched a local kabaddi tournament in my village. I remember being completely drawn to the energy, intensity, and competitive spirit of the game. I was fascinated by how much strength, strategy, and teamwork went into every move. After that, I started playing whenever I could, and slowly, kabaddi became a passion for me.

Even today, stepping onto the kabaddi mat brings back the same excitement I felt watching that tournament for the first time. There’s something about the game that still gives me an instant rush and makes me forget everything else for a while.

One of the most memorable moments in my kabaddi journey was captaining my college team in 2020. As an all-rounder, I contributed on both sides of the mat, with several Super 10s in attack and High 5s in defence during the tournament. Being able to contribute consistently while leading the team eventually earned me the Best All-Rounder of the Tournament award.

More than the award, what stays with me is the experience of stepping up for the team and performing when it mattered. It taught me a lot about staying focused and keeping my composure under pressure. It’s a memory I’ll always be proud of.

I can be a little forgetful at times. It’s something my friends love teasing me about.
